A death in the family sent the wizard on a journey to a distant mega-developed area of country where a loved one requires loving attention.

Regretfully the trip caused a lengthy delay in asnwering questions. The wizard extends apologies to all who waited.

Our journey through life is full of bumps and crevices, not unlike the terrain of dating souls, and all must jump, swim, fly, or crawl. More simply stated, we all must manage. So we do.

A news report on the life and times of the wizard, who returned after a trek of continental proportions over an exotic land mass.

3,727 miles, exactly, traversed on the ground in six days. Whew! The sights mostly disappointing, what mattered most was the discovery of new folds in the wizard's brain.

Found there are recollections of wisdom imparted to the world by St. Thomas Aquinas. Once upon a time, the wizard put away the words of Aquinas as hogwash – clap-trap designed to sound philosophical but instead no more than sophomoric gibberish put together by a high and mighty mind.

A better understanding of charity, a virtue in a disputatious world, now informs the wizard's will.

When one hears from an enemy's mouth a "charitable offer," one witnesses a willingness to bend or to sacrifice, to admit a wrong or to appreciate how one perceived an offense and became an enemy, to pay for an injury caused or to chop off a limb. This charity is not payment of money or a gift to one in need. This charity is deeper and more gracious. This charity is an act of good will to one's neighbor with a purpose to end a dispute.

The charitable will is a blessing to be maintained, cultivated, and used. The supply is endless. The benefits are evidence of the human capacity for greatness.

There exists an island called Happimee. Surrounding the island is a series of other islands named Crappimee. The wizard often takes time out from the space of current time to rest on Happimee. One looks over a short span of sea to Crappimee where birds stand and gab all day. The only inhabitants of Crappimee are bird-crap-eating lizards. No human can withstand the stench and sticky discomfort.

Happimee abounds with fruit, sun, and friendly bands of native population. They speak in an undecipherable language, and that is quite okay with the wizard, whose name quizzically rhymes with lizard. Oh, well.

Everyone knows the islands of Happimee and Crappimee. Happimee is a daily vacation spot for good-life ethereal travelers. Crappimee contains the wreckage of spoiled vacations.

The wizard enters a world of wonder on a short vacation starting July 21, 2007. The wizard travels in ethereal spheres where physical boundaries and communications are non-existent. The real world becomes a silly and inconsequential part ot the wizard's consciousness when traveling ethereally. The wizard returns to this world on July 27, 2007 and will answer questions again.

All who travel are wished good timing, safety, and pleasurable sights.

Those who cannot travel are advised to lift up your minds and travel with imagination. Do this in darkness and light, in silence and noise, wide awake and in dreams, alone and with a lover, and in long spells and brief moments. Variety adds spice and vitamins to the imagination.

Those who have no vacation time, make time to smell the flowers. Enjoy the small details of existence. The smaller the detail, the slower the mind perceives time. All ethereal travelers understand this principle. The speed of time as perceived by the mind is a function of the size of what is perceived.

The wizard notices that Valentine’s Day is here. Well, that is a blip on the screen for some of us, but for all who love someone, it is an occasion to remember your loved one in case you have been remiss, and to settle any misgivings or grievances between you.

The girl in every woman loves a kiss, an original poem, and flowers from her man. The boy in every man loves the comfort and security that only a woman who loves him can give.

Yes, there is a little of the girl’s love for her dad and the boy’s love for his mom in all of us. Remember your parents, too, on Valentine’s Day.

The wizard is going away to a place without electricity, without telephones, without people, and without running water. The wizard will enter a deeply reflective moment at about 4:00 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2006, and will re-enter the real world on or about April 19, 2006.

At that time the wizard will resume answering questions in hope of illuminating the minds of dating folks about the benefits of dumping.

For those who do not like to dump or be dumped, that is a normal reaction. For the most part, doing a dump or getting dumped is more difficult than being in a healthy and happy relationship. If you are in a healthy and happy relationship, you should not dump or be dumped. When the relationship turns unhealthy or unhappy, the obvious answer is a dump.

If you think you might be unhappy, you usually are.

All terrain contains hills and valleys. We are all terrain vehicles on the dating road. We endure the hills and valleys, and may even find them fun and instructive. But when the hills become mountains with cliffs, or when the valleys are flooded or full of crevices, no all terrain vehicle should be required to traverse them. It is time to stop and turn around or take another direction.

So be it with all terrain dating.

December 1, 2005:

The December holidays approach in earnest. If your relationship is a good one, your enjoyment of the holidays will be enhanced, and some wonderful memories will be created.

May all of you have such good relationships.

If you are miserable in your relationship, try to be generous in spirit and forgiving in your heart, and always remember that the New Year brings a wealth of opportunity to grow, improve, and become a better person. Work on that. It will make your life, and the life of all those around you, better.

Remember also:

With each measure of success comes an even greater measure of opportunity to do good things for people less fortunate.

Commentary:

The wizard speaks.

The next time you go out on a date, make sure that you are at your best behavior. If you mess up, she'll remember forever, unless, and only unless, she is smitten with you. Then you might get away with almost anything.

But if you want your girl to love you, and you have true feeling for her, then you will avoid messing up, unless you're an out-of-control idiot.

And there are a few of those around.
